Urgent Prayer Request

for Luke and his family(March 20, 2016)

So I know that we have not had to update on Luke's condition in a while, and I guess no news has been good news for a couple months. But unfortunately Luke is having neurological side effects that they cannot figure out, and yesterday he stopped breathing and went unresponsive. Thanks to Boston Children's crew for resuscitating him successfully and quickly. He had another neurosurgery while he was out of it, and it has not given us any definitive answers. I struggled with whether to post this, but in the end so many of you have been part of this journey and kept Luke in your prayers. So I am writing to ask you to continue your prayers for Luke. We don't know what all of this means for either his leukemia treatment which is still ongoing, or for his neurological condition overall. All this has been an extremely long road so we as a whole family would be grateful for your prayers. Thank you

Ryan Bradley

#LukeStronger Update, September 29, 2015

Hello everyone, this is Luke.  Thank you all for your prayers, cards, and support.  I am getting better and excited for Thanksgiving.  2 reasons.  The first is that Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.  I love the food and all my relatives come into town.  We play a big football game in the backyard.  The second reason I am excited is that I am finally coming home on Thanksgiving!  I haven’t been home (other than for a few hours) in over 5 months. It will be 7 months by the time Thanksgiving is here.  So that’s it, I have 7 ½ weeks left to go.  And one more big chemo treatment left.

Thank you all for praying for me!   Luke

Thursday, October 8, 2015- Thank you for prayers for Luke.

Praise God - Luke seems to have overcome the pancreatitis so the team is optimistic that chemo treatments will continue as planned.  Thank you for your prayers and please continue to pray that it will not return and his body will handle the chemo well!

After a very brief visit home, Luke has had to be readmitted to the hospital Intensive Care Unit due to issues with cranial pressure.

Please, hold Luke, his family and their medical team in prayer for God's continued miracles. Pray for Luke's complete healing. Pray for the strength and courage of the entire Bradley family to continue to endure this very rough journey. Pray for the medical team for their continued expertise and sincerity. As always, thank you so very much for your ongoing support.

#LukeStronger Update, July 20, 2015

This past week has been precarious as Luke has had some setbacks. With his suffering of fever and headaches, Luke was readmitted to Children’s Hospital through the ER, ICU and is currently back in the Oncology wing. Several tests have been run to try to pinpoint the cause. As of now Luke looks stable and the doctors do NOT believe that the meningitis has returned. Please join us in prayer that these symptoms are not a recurrence of bacterial meningitis and, with God’s mercy and grace, the medical staff will find a swift remedy for Luke’s comfort and progress so that he may resume his rehab.      -Ryan

ANSWERED PRAYERS (December 4, 2015)

Thank you all for your many prayers for Luke's strength and healing and his family's peace and comfort.

Great news! Luke was moved to rehab yesterday! "The hope is that he will be there up until Christmas and then home for the holiday! He's doing occupational, speech, and physical therapy for an hour each day." Praise God! Thank you, Everyone! We sincerely appreciate your ongoing support.

A Message of Thanksgiving, July 2, 2015

Hello all.

I am sitting here in Boston Children's Hospital, watching my son make great improvements. Soon he will be going to a rehab hospital. His bacterial meningitis is now under control, he is learning to regain his motor skills, and his leukemia is still in remission. They are getting ready to think about getting him on a normal chemo treatment program again as he gains strength, to keep the cancer from returning. So much has happened in the last 2 and half months. We've seen heartbreak and miracles, triumph and tragedies. Somehow I have to learn to be grateful for both I guess. But mostly right now....I'm grateful for the miracles. The pain is still a little too fresh to look back on and appreciate the strength that it will surely build.

Anyway, the purpose of this writing was not just to update everyone who has been following Luke's story on Facebook and, but also to say thanks. I literally have no way of thanking every single person that has contributed, donated, prayed for, and encouraged us. With my wife not being able to work during all of this, I don't know how we would have made it without you. That is a very uncomfortable and humbling feeling. But my family, church, and community all rallied, unprovoked and unasked, just simply out of love to respond to our need.

So here it goes, knowing that I will absolutely not be able to cover it all................thank you to our family and Designed by Depino for your work with the golf outing &, thank you Second Baptist Church for your generosity and prayer support, thank you Springfield College football for the push-up challenge that kicked off these Facebook posts, thank you South Hadley Schools and the band West Summitt (who totally rocked!) for the awesome concert in the park, thank you South Hadley and Granby for all you've done to reach out as a community, thank you friends for your encouragement and help juggling all of this with our two other kids, and thanks to every single one of you who has taken the time to pray and support us. No card or comment has gone unnoticed. I hope that we can keep the LukeStronger invitational going in the future to help other families who will be in a situation like ours. Until someday when these types of pains will no longer be...Never give up faith, never let go of family, never underappreciate or underestimate your friends.

My prayer is that somehow God will be glorified in the life of my son, and that his story will touch others. Life has purpose!

#LukeStronger Update, August 3, 2015

“Luke is progressing neurologically and getting stronger, though he continues to be sick from the current round of chemo.  This has delayed his rehab, but we are coming to the end of the current chemo cycle and he will have a break before starting the next cycle.  We absolutely love your prayers, and believe very strongly that Luke is overcoming all of this through the power of prayer!  Thank you all for your love and support!”    Much appreciated!        - Ryan

God's Miracles! (November 2, 2015)
After enduring the latest and largest round of chemotherapy, Luke was experiencing seizures. But, thanks to your many prayers and God's grace, Luke has come through with excellent test results to eliminate concerns of infection or other infirmity. With all of that behind him, Luke was able to participate in Halloween activities! Look at that award winning smile! Doesn't he make a wonderful Carl Fredricksen- with his trusty sidekick Russell?

From here the family is prayerful for Luke to complete his treatments, progress with his rehabilitation and finally get back home for Thanksgiving. Please continue to pray for Luke's continued healing and progress and for courage, strength and wisdom for his family and medical team.

Thank you again for your continuing support.

A Wonderful Christmas Blessing (December 18, 2015)

BREAKING NEWS! Luke is now home with his family and all are settling in well to this new chapter in their journey.

Please keep Luke and his family in prayer for continued healing, strength, guidance, joy and love throughout this Christmas season.

Thank you all for your many prayers for Luke and his family. It is with sadness that we report that Luke has had to return to the hospital...again. We ask you to please pray for answers and resolutions for the medical team; patience and complete healing for Luke; and peace and comfort for the entire Bradley family as they remember the love and kindness that you all provide.  We sincerely appreciate your ongoing support and will continue to post updates as they are received.

Breaking News! (December 10, 2015)

The doctors believe the cause of Luke's brain swelling to be two blockages that have been discovered.  There is an excess of fluid in his brain and it is not able to drain as fast as it is being produced because of the blockages. Therefore, doctors are prescribing two medications to help with this issue.  We are all still hopeful to have Luke home for Christmas.
Please continue to pray for Luke, his family, his medical team and the success of the new medications to help this young boy come home for Christmas. Praise God for the strength He have brought to carry this family through this very rough journey!

THANK YOU! You Are True Blessings (December 28, 2015)

Hello everyone,
A special thank you for the wonderful response of greetings and cards that we received.  What a pleasant surprise!  Thank you to Laurie DePino who felt moved to do this in support of our family.  It was so meaningful to know how many people are praying and thinking of Luke.
And...speaking of Luke.  He has been home for two weeks as of today!  He is doing very well with home rehab, and his chemo is outpatient in the clinic from here on out.  We feel extremely blessed.  In this journey, your support has helped us get through this time with love and encouragement.  Your donations have supplemented thousands of dollars in lost income, as well as commutes and food in Boston.  It was a hard road.  My wife and I switched back and forth from Boston to South Hadley several times each week, and were rarely together under the same roof.  That is why your support was so special.  With Luke home now, and Nikki working again, our family is on the road to recovery.  We were so blessed by all of you.  Not only were our needs met, but we were able to give almost $10,000 to other families dealing with children's cancer as well.  That, too, was a blessing!
Going forward, we are hoping to continue to raise support for other families through special events (and hopefully another golf outing!).  That will be the ongoing way Luke Stronger gives back!  In the meantime, as things get back to normal (whatever that means anymore?!?!), thank you to Laurie DePino, Allison Bradley, Karen Rippa, and the many people who ran and organized the Luke Stronger site.  We appreciate all you have done more than you can imagine.
Thank you all so much and God bless you for your compassion to our family.  We hope that as the months go by, you will remember how much Luke has fought his way back, and that his story will inspire you in whatever fight may come your way.

Monday, October 5, 2015- Immediate request for prayers for Luke.

UPDATE (3:20 PM)- It is confirmed that Luke has pancreatitis. Please pray that is clears quickly and that the doctors and Luke's parents are given wisdom to choose the next steps.

(1:20 PM) Please storm heaven with prayers!  Luke is undergoing his most intense chemo treatment and the medical staff believe that he may have pancreatitis from it. Luke needs to have this last treatment so please pray for him! Thank you so very much!

#LukeStronger Update,July 13, 2015

Luke continues to rehab at Spaulding and is working really hard.  His recovery is going to be very long, but we are asking everyone to pray for him as he works through it.  He is learning to sit up, use his arms more, work on memory, etc.  In addition to this rehab, Luke is undergoing a new phase of chemotherapy that started today.  It is making him sick, but he is fighting through it like a champ!  We are hopeful that this new increased chemo phase will keep the leukemia from gaining any ground, and allow him to pick up his treatment where we would have left off before the meningitis surfaced.  We will know a lot in the next month.  Our prayers are threefold at this point:

  • That the meningitis does not resurface from any of the small debris areas left in his head
  • That these previously infected areas continue to drain and Luke is able to regain full neurological function
  • That the leukemia is kept fully in check so Luke can pick up his treatment with confidence…and that it never returns.

We appreciate you joining us in this prayer!
Thank you for your love and support of our family.  God is good…all the time…even when it hurts.    -Ryan Bradley
